Networking devices are the devices which are used to connect multiple devices all together (here devices includes computers) to transfer files or data or resources.

There are many types of networking devices and they are as follows :-

  1. HUB.
  2. SWITCH.
  3. ROUTER.
  4. BRIDGE.
  5. GATEWAY.
  6. MODEM.
  7. REPEATER.
  8. ACCESS POINT.
  • HUB

HUB is a physical layer networking device which is used to connects multiple devices in a network. It is used to connect computers in LAN. A HUB has many ports for multiple connections. HUB acts as a central connection.

There are 3 types of HUB

  1. Active HUB.
  2. Passive HUB.
  3. Intelligent HUB.
  • SWITCH

Switch are networking devices operating at layer 2 or a data link layer of the OSI model. They connect devices in a network and uses packet switching to send, receive or forward data packets or data frames over the network.

There are 4 types of switch

  1. Unmanaged switch.
  2. Managed switch.

In managed switch there are more 2 types

  1. Smart switches.
  2. Enterprises managed switches.

3. LAN switches.

4. PoE switches(power of ethernet)

  • ROUTER

Router are networking devices which are at layer 3 or network layer of the OSI model. They are used to receive or send data packets and these packets are shared among the computers connected in the network. Router can be used in both the connections i.e. we can use router in LAN as well as in WAN connection also.

There are various types of router some of them are listed below

  1. Wireless router.
  2. Broadband router.
  3. Core router.
  4. Edgw router.
  5. Brouter.
  • BRIDGE

A Bridge is a device which is used to connect in multiple LAN network together to form a larger LAN network. Bridge operates at the data link layer of the OSI model and hence also referred as layer 2 switches. By joining multiple LANs, bridge helps in multiplying the network capacity of a single LAN. Bridges also connect virtual LANs to make a large VLAN.

  • GATEWAY

A gateway is a network mode with which we can form a passage between two networks operating with different transmission protocol. In the most common type of gateways the gateway network operates at layer 3 i.e. OSI model. Gateway is located at the boundary of a network and manages all data that inflows or outflows from that network. It also stores information about the routing path of thr communicating networks. A gateway is generally implement as a mode with multuiple NICs connected to different networks. It can also be configured using software.

The types of gateways are

  3. Network gateway
  4. Cloud storage gateway
  5. Internet to orbit gateway
  6. Iot gateway
  7. VoiP Trunk Gateway
  • MODEM

Modem is advice that enables a computed to send or receive data over telephone or cable lines can transmit only analog and vice versa. It is a combination of two device i.e. one is modulator and demodulator. Modulator converts digital data to analog data when the data is being sent by the computer. The demodulator connects analog data signals into digital data when it is being received by the computer.

The types of modem are

  1. Simplex
  2. Half duplex
  3. Full duplex.
  • REPEATER

Repeater are the networking devices that operating at physical layer of the OSI model that amplify or regenerate an incoming signal before retransmitting it. They are also called as signal booster.

The type of repeater

  1. Analog repeater
  2. Wired repeater
  3. local repeater
  4. remote repeater
  5. digital repeater
  6. wireless repeater
  • ACCESS POINTS

An access point is a device that creates a wireless local are network or WLAN usually in an office or large building. An access point connects to a wired router, switch or hub via an ethernet cable and project a wifi signal to a designated
